RESEARCH GOVERNANCE

Overview

Investigators planning to conduct human subject research either taking place within or in conjunction with PHCC, its staff or service users must seek prior approval from PHCC’s Institutional Review Board (IRB). This includes and applies to all research activity undertaken:

  1. within or in conjunction with PHCC.
  2. outside PHCC in organisations with arrangement to rely on PHCC IRB for ethics review.

Process

Exempt and non-exempt research applications are reviewed by PHCC’s Clinical Research Committee (CRC) and IRB respectively to formally assess and monitor in accordance with principles established by MoPH for human subjects’ research and PHCC policies.

Timelines to review research application depend on the type of submission and risk of research.

Funding

PHCC’s Research Budget Sub-Committee (RBSC) reviews and monitors research budget requests from PHCC staff to support qualified and self-initiated research proposals. The RBSC reviews budget requests based on the organisation’s priorities, scientific merit and cost justifications of proposals. Approvals are also subject to availability of funds.

PHCC’s Clinical Research Management Framework outlines its governance structure and processes in the conduct and management of research. It can be downloaded from PHCC’s policy portal.
